August starts out with a good amount of day games, meaning that the Wednesday night slate is a bit limited. But I’ll still do a roster at FanDuel, and I encourage you to try it, too.
Here are some of my thoughts that might help you put together your lineup for daily fantasy baseball.
2B Steve Lombardozzi is in the lineup pretty regularly now for the Nats and trying to stick. He is riding a 6 game hit streak, and was 2 for 3 last time he faced Vance Worley with a double and a walk. Plus he is only $3100 of salary. In that same game, C Carlos Ruiz is 5 for 6 lifetime against Edwin Jackson with 2 doubles. Chooch is $3700.
Staying in the NL East, you may notice that Miami is putting in a reliever to start the game, Wade LeBlanc. You may want to hope that OF Jason Heyward gets to face him a few times. He is 4 for 5 lifetime against LeBlanc, including 2 for 2 this year with a home run. Heyward has homered in 3 of his last 7 and is a more expensive $4100 as a result.
If he starts tonight, OF Daniel Nava of the Red Sox might be a nice pickup against Porcello. He hits better at home, and better against righties. He is only $3000 in salary, too.
St Louis has cooled off considerably from the offensive power they were at the start of the year. But Colorado altitude has helped them. OF Carlos Beltran ($3700) homered in the last two games, and he is 2 for 5 in the past against Drew Pomeranz. 1B Allen Craig ($3800) should also do well against lefty Pomeranz.
On the mound, I am taking Reds P Bronson Arroyo for $7300 against a Padres team that strikes out less than they used to, but still at a 20% K rate.
