Fan Duel is offering two rounds of games today, one at 4:00 PM, the other at 7:00 PM, Philly time.
So let’s break things down early and late in case you want to hit it twice this sweltering Saturday.
P Dillon Gee is striking guys out at a rate of 8.23 per 9 innings. He is walking 2.57 per 9IP, but that K/BB ratio is still a decent 3.21. He is available for $7300. His opponent is Jeff Samardzija, who the Mets tattooed two weeks ago for 9 ER in 4 1/3 innings. I think Gee is a decent pick up at pitcher.
Speaking of that thumping, 2B Daniel Murphy and 1B Ike Davis both had 2 hits against Samardzija that day. Murphy is having a good week, too, as Phillies fans may recall. He went 7 for 14 in 3 games against the Phils, then in a pinch hit appearance yesterday drew a walk and scored a run. That’s someone seeing the ball well, and Murphy is $3600 in salary.
RHP Doug Fister is not havinga very good year for Detroit, and particularly against lefties, who are hitting .302/.333/.474 against him. You know what that means when facing the Royals – Moustakas time! 3B Mike Moustakas is $3600 in salary.
In that same game, C Salvador Perez is only 1 for 4 lifetime against Fister (for a double) but is on fire, going 12 for 24 in his last 7 games. He is very affordable at $3000.
OF Alejandro De Aza was 2 for 4 earlier in the year against Ricky Romero, who has all kind of issues this year with letting people on base.
I like what P Trevor Cahill did earlier in the year against the Dodgers (6IP, 1 ER, 6K, failed to get the win when the bullpen failed). I think Homer Bailey has been surprisingly useful as a fantasy pitcher with that Reds offense making him comfortable. But while Trevor Cahill faces Chad Billingsley, who has been shaky for the Dodgers, Bailey is up against Clayton Richard pitching well in San Diego. I’m taking Cahill.
I wish that OF Michael Bourn was not $4100 tonight at Fan Duel. But he is for a reason. He is 5 for 11 lifetime against Blanton, with 4 stolen bases. Even earlier this year, when Heavy B threw a complete game shutout against the Braves, it was Bourn who had one of the three hits for Atlanta. I might still need to try to squeeze Bourn onto the roster.
And OF Torii Hunter may help me do it. He is only $3200, but was 2 for 4 a couple weeks ago against Hammel. Hunter was in a slump against Cleveland earlier this week, as were all the Angels. But he perked up when the Os came to town (again, like all the other Angels).
SS Willie Bloomquist hits .333 against Billingsley, and is available for $3300. In that same game, 2B Aaron Hill is 2 for 6 lifetime against Billingsley (those hits were a double and a home run). Hill is 13 for his last 34 at-bats. Not a bad hot streak to play, but it will cost you $3900.
OF Denard Span is 3 for 8 lifetime against Derek Holland, who is coming off the DL for this appearance. Span is $3300 at Fan Duel.
1B Adrian Gonzalez went 2 for 5 against Phil Hughes last year. You’re taking a chance in that Gonzalez is already playing in the first game of the double header. But what choice do the Sox have?
