Beach Soccer
Returns to Atlantic City

July 18, 2012 -

For the fourth year in a row, Beach Soccer returns to Atlantic City. More specifically, the tournament will be held at Brigantine beach, but as the photo from the 2011 tournament shows, play is practically in the shadow of the resorts in AC. Tournament organizers Soccer Resort will host divisions for men’s, women’s, coed, and youth teams.

“We are very excited to come back to Brigantine Beach this summer,” wrote Soccer Resort founder and CEO Niall Swan in an email. “Our customers keep coming back to play in the tournament not just because it’s a fun, relaxing, and well-organized event but also because the Brigantine Beach provides a clean and safe environment for everybody – players, their families and friends.”

According to Jim Mogan, Director of Community Education and Recreation for Brigantine, the community is also enthused. “This is a tremendous event,” Mogan said by phone.  “Last year there were 12 fields on the beach  running from 38th to 42nd streets. It brings in people to see the island for the first time. We’re pleased that they’ve been coming back year after year.”

Mogan also points out that this builds on the city’s ability to run events like the Brigantine Triathalon, now in its 25th year, held the first Saturday of every August.

SoccerResort is based in Hoboken and is able to pull a strong contingent from New Jersey, and elsewhere.

Last year’s tournament featured 50 teams with over 700 competing players. Players from Ireland are expected by the tournament organizers this year.

Wait, Ireland?

“There’s an Irish team in New York City that is bringing over some Irish players,” according to Swan, “for the high quality soccer, and higher quality nightlife in AC.”

Play in the tournament will be five-on-five (four players plus a goalie) with a maximum of ten players to a team. Teams are guaranteed at least four games.

There is no prize money at stake, but Soccer Resort does offer credit toward future tournament travel for winners and runner-up teams in the top divisions.

Registration is open until Monday, Aug. 13. The tournament fee for local teams is $425.

For traveling teams, Soccer Resort has made arrangements with the nearby Courtyard by Marriott for a special tournament rate when coupled with team registration. See the Soccer Resort Atlantic City tournament page for more information.
