Some Pitcher Thoughts

July 30, 2012 -

I don’t have as much time as I normally like to put together a roster today at FanDuel, but I do like a few of starting pitchers on the cheap.

A.J. Griffin for the A’s has a low WHIP of 0.97 on an unsustainable BABIP of .230 despite a ground ball percentage just under 40%. But he does strike out 7.25K/9IP while only walking 2BB/9IP, facing the Rays who strike out  21.7% of the time. He is available for $6100.

The problem is he is facing David Price, who should also have a good day with a lot of strikeouts against an A’s team that does not hit lefties well.

The other is Eric Bedard for $6900. His issue is he is facing a Chicago team that he just saw in his last start. Yes, he shut them down last time, but they can make adjustments.

And he is facing the real dark horse for the night. Justin Germano of the Cubs, with a strikeout rate of 8.31/9IP, 2.08 BB/9IP, 44.4% groudball rate, and a .370 BABIP that should actually come down. Yes, the Pirates hit. They also whiff 22% of the time. For $3300, worth a gamble. Especially to load up on Rangers facing Ervin Santana.
