Rain may make it tough to pick your roster at FanDuel today.

But I think the pitching pick will still be good. I like the idea of Fiers for $7,100 at Fan Duel. His numbers are excellent, striking out 9.06/9IP, walking 2.18 BB/9IP, allowing only 0.34HR/9IP. That last number is unsustainable, especially with his low groundball rate of 31%. The Reds are relatively punchless without Votto making pitchers wet themselves. But he’s facing Cueto and that makes the win less of a probability.

For more of a sleeper pick, Christian Friedrich brings his 8.48K/9IP rate to Petco to face  Pdres team with a K rate of 21%. He is only $5,500. You might actually look at Padres P Ohlendorf while eyeing that game. He also boasts a decent 7.83K/9IP. But the Rockies do not strike out like the Padres, and he walks batters more than Friedrich (4.30BB/9IP compared to 3.11 for Friedrich). If you go with one here, I like Friedrich.

One cheap pitcher I do not like is Jordan Lyles against Arizona. He gets groundballs at a very high rate (51%) but his K/BB ratio is only 1.83, and he gives up 1.46HR/9IP. OF Justin Upton, C Miguel Montero, and OF Gerardo Parra all hit him last year for a combined 8 for 9  with each getting a double. Lyles almost makes Arizona P Collmenter look attractive, but he can’t seem to stay in games.
