Halfway through the Borgata Spring Open, Philly-area players have had a slow start. With the notable exception of Norristown’s Tim Lemke winning the first event of the Borgata spring series for more than $111,000, winners and most high-finishers in the first 10 of 21 events have been from out of the area, especially the New York and North Jersey region.
Three of the first 10 champions have been from Brooklyn. Brooklyn’s Yuebin Guo won two of the first six events — the H.O.R.S.E. mixed-game event and an Omaha hi-lo for more than $17,000 combined.
It was in that Omaha hi-lo, that veteran player Robert “Bo” Toft, of Yardley in Bucks County, represented for Philly players by finishing third for $2,200.
A couple of other familiar local names have come up with cashes. Roman Valerstein, of Newtown in Bucks County, finished 24th for $881 in a $400 deep-stack no-limit hold’em event, and Jesse Cohen, of Ardmore in Montgomery County, finished 18th in a $770 buy-in no-limit hold’em event for $1,650.
Joseph Liberta, of Berlin, N.J., finished 9th in the $770 no-limit hold’em event for $2,475.
