July 23, 2012 -
The World Series of Poker Circuit returns to the Philadelphia area for three events during the 2012-13 season.
The Circuit will be in Atlantic City for two tournament series, at Harrah’s, Nov. 29-Dec. 10, and at Caesars, Feb. 28-March 11, and just outside Philly at Harrah’s Philadelphia, April 25-May 6.
The Circuit will grow to 20 tournaments in 2012-13 from 17 series last season. It will retain the format of building to a National Championship, but in 2013, the end-of-season tournament will be held in New Orleans, May 21-23, instead of Las Vegas.
As was the case last season, 100 seats in the National Championship will go to top performers on the Circuit with a $1 million guarantee, the championship will be nationally televised, and the championship will award a WSOP bracelet—the first to be given out domestically outside of Las Vegas.
Interestingly, the WSOP Circuit has attracted a brand name presenting sponsor, Southern Comfort 100 Proof.
Additions to the Circuit this year will be Foxwoods casino in Connecticut and River Rock in Vancouver, Canada, along with the new Horseshoe in Cleveland and Harrah’s Cherokee in North Carolina.
The tournaments will feature 12 ring events with a main event with a $1,675 buy-in with re-entry. National Championship seats will be awarded to the winner of each main event, the highest points-earner at each tournament series and the 60 top points players for the entire season. Also, invitations will be extended to the top 100 performers from 2011 and 2012 WSOP open bracelet events but for the $10,000 buy-in.
