May 3, 2012 -

Joseph Wertz, from upstate Pennsylvania, won the Parx Spring Showdown main event and nearly $65,600, beating Marvin Siegal, of Monroe, N.J., in heads-up. The $1,600 buy-in no-limit hold’em event, which was also a World Poker Tour Regional event, attracted 195 entrants.

Wertz, of Montoursville, outkicked Siegal on the final hand holding K-Q to Siegal’s K-9. A king hit the turn and the river didn’t change either hand. Runner-up Siegal, who already won a $550, buy-in no-limit hold’em event during the Parx spring series for more than $14,000, added another $45,629 to his tournament haul.

Poker pro Lee Childs, from Reston, Va., finished third in the Parx spring main event for $34,222. Philadelphia’s Steve Zhang was fourth for $26,222. And Jeffrey Wicker, also of Philadelphia, was fifth for $19,250.
