The Main Event of the World Series of Poker began Saturday with the first of three starting days, and a handful of Philadelphia-area players were among the 657 players from that heat who made the second round. In recent years, the WSOP Main Event has attracted more than 6,000 entrants.
There are also starting days on sunday and Monday.
The fortunate ones who avoid elimination will play long days until July 16 at the Rio casino in Las Vegas. And if they make the famous final table, they’ll return in late October for the televised climax of the WSOP’s marquee event.
