Gold wins at Borgata,
Voorhees woman third

Jane Gold, mother of 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Jamie Gold, earned a title of her own in winning the Borgata Winter Poker Open Ladies’ event over the weekend while a Voorhees, N.J. woman finished third.

Jane’s Gold prize of $10,185 in the $400 buy-in that drew 100 players may have been a little short of her son’s record first-place jackpot of $12 million in the largest World Series of Poker Main Event field ever, but Mom Gold proudly called the Borgata Ladies’ championship “my main event.”

“Look out Jamie Gold, mama’s coming to get you,” Jane Gold, who now has three Borgata tournament cashes, told Borgata reporters. Kim Sachse, of Baltimore, finished second for $5,602.

A Voorhees woman, Hallee LoGrasso, took third place and $3,225.  According to the Borgata’s live blog, it was LoGrasso’s second tournament cash at the Borgata.

The Borgata reported that LoGrasso was “caught in the three way crossfire” among winner Gold and runner-up Sachse. “I’m tired and retired,” LoGrasso said after a long day of poker.

A Shore woman, Leanne Rosenblatt, of Brigantine, was fifth for $2,037.

Lana O’Brien, of Englishtown, N.J.,  finished fourth for $2,716 and nearly repeated as Ladies’ champion.  She won the event in November when she was nine months pregnant. O’Brien lost a key hand to Gold that helped determine the weekend tournament.  Gold took a 1 million chip pot when O’Brien missed a heart flush draw.

The Borgata Winter Open includes 28 events and runs through Feb. 3.
